Mouse Practice includes alternatives for people who prefer a keyboard or touchscreen, and for devices without a conventional secondary-click or held-drag gesture. These alternatives practice the sequence of a task; they do not reproduce the same physical mouse action.

Keyboard navigation

Use Tab to move between controls and Shift + Tab to move back. A visible outline marks the focused item. Activate buttons with Enter or Space. The main navigation, lesson choices, mode controls and session buttons do not require pointer input.

Turn on Use touch / keyboard alternatives before starting for the clearest keyboard experience. Activating a practice document with a keyboard also marks that session as using alternative controls.

Alternative lesson controls

  • Point: select the highlighted document with a button activation instead of hovering.
  • Click: activate the named document.
  • Double-click: use the clearly labelled alternative Open button.
  • Right-click: activate Open practice menu, then choose the action. A keyboard context-menu key or Shift + F10 also opens the practice menu while the lesson is active.
  • Drag and drop: select the document, then activate the matching folder.
  • Scroll: focus the document list and use arrows or Page keys, the scrollbar or ordinary button navigation.

Pause and take your time

Gentle practice has no time limit. In an active exercise, Escape pauses and moves focus to Resume. You can also use the Pause button. A session pauses when its tab becomes hidden or the window loses focus. Challenge time resumes only when you choose Resume.

Feedback and display

Task instructions appear as text. Status messages use a polite live region so compatible screen readers can announce them without moving focus. Completion is described with text as well as color. The site uses system fonts, readable contrast and visible control boundaries.

You can enlarge the page with your browser’s zoom controls. The layout adapts to narrow screens. Reduced-motion preferences remove animated transitions and show the point-lesson progress indicator without its filling animation; the short required hover duration is unchanged.

Known limitations

The physical pointing, double-clicking and dragging exercises depend on pointer input. A browser cannot make those movements equivalent for every device. Browser and operating-system settings affect gestures, timing and assistive-technology behavior. We have not claimed formal accessibility certification or universal compatibility.
